Proof & Licensing

Licensed, registered, and verifiable.

International moving involves significant trust. You are handing your household to a company that will ship it across borders. Terra Relocations holds federal licenses, maintains industry memberships, and operates with full transparency so you can verify every claim.

Federal Licenses & Industry Membership

Every license, verified and current.

FMC OTI License No. 033539N

FMC Licensed — Ocean Transportation Intermediary

Terra Relocations holds an Ocean Transportation Intermediary (OTI) license issued by the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). This license authorizes Terra to arrange ocean freight transportation of household goods and commercial cargo. FMC licensees must maintain a surety bond and meet financial responsibility requirements that protect consumers.

FMC licensing means Terra meets federally mandated financial responsibility standards and is subject to FMC oversight. Unlicensed operators do not carry the same consumer protections.

FMC NVOCC License No. 033539N

FMC Licensed — Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier

As a licensed Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC), Terra Relocations can issue bills of lading, accept cargo for ocean transportation, and take responsibility for shipments from origin to destination. This dual OTI/NVOCC authority allows Terra to coordinate the complete international shipping process.

NVOCC licensing provides additional consumer protection by holding Terra directly responsible for cargo under its bill of lading, rather than simply brokering the shipment to another party.

USDOT Broker No. 4048300

USDOT Registered Broker

Terra Relocations is registered with the United States Department of Transportation as a licensed property broker. This registration authorizes Terra to arrange domestic transportation services in connection with international relocations, including pickup, delivery, and warehouse transfers within the United States.

USDOT registration ensures that domestic transportation coordination is performed under federal oversight and that Terra maintains required insurance and bonding.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

FMCSA Operating Authority

Terra Relocations maintains operating authority through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This authority governs the domestic transportation component of international moves, including interstate trucking to ports, consolidation warehouses, and airports.

FMCSA authority means Terra's domestic operations comply with federal safety and insurance requirements.

International Association of Movers

IAM Member

Terra Relocations is a member of the International Association of Movers (IAM), the largest global trade association for international moving and relocation companies. IAM membership connects Terra to a worldwide network of vetted destination agents, enabling reliable coordination in over 150 countries.

IAM membership provides access to a trusted network of destination agents and aligns Terra with industry best practices for international household goods shipping.

Why It Matters

Why you should only use a licensed international mover.

The international moving industry includes companies operating without proper licensing. Unlicensed operators may offer lower prices but carry significant risk: no federal bonding, no regulatory oversight, no accountability if something goes wrong, and no legal obligation to honor quoted prices.

Choosing a licensed mover means your shipment is covered by federal consumer protections, your documentation is handled by an authorized party, and you have recourse through regulatory agencies if disputes arise.

!
No FMC License

Companies arranging ocean freight without an FMC license are operating illegally. They cannot issue proper bills of lading and may not carry required bonds.

!
No Physical Address

Legitimate international movers have verifiable office locations. Companies that only operate through online forms or virtual offices should be researched carefully.

!
Unusually Low Quotes

Quotes significantly below market rates may indicate the company plans to increase charges after pickup, subcontract without oversight, or lacks proper licensing and insurance.

!
No Written Agreement

A reputable international mover provides a detailed service agreement before accepting deposits. Verbal commitments are not enforceable.

!
Pressure Tactics

High-pressure sales tactics, artificial urgency, or demands for immediate large deposits are warning signs. Legitimate companies allow clients time to review agreements.

!
No Clear Inclusions & Exclusions

If a company cannot clearly explain what is included in the quote, what is not included, and what may vary, the final cost is likely to differ significantly from the initial estimate.
